VW Taos arrives on the American market

Volkswagen’s global lineup of SUVs is incredibly complicated, even for those who are true connoisseurs of this brand, especially if we are talking about small or compact models. For example, North America does not have T-Cross and T-Roc, they are available in Europe and other parts of the world, nor do they sell Tacqua, Thara, Tayron / Tayron X or Tiguan X that are available in China. Although to fix things, the new sub-Tiguan model is being added to the lineup for the 2022 model year.

To better portray the Taos, the company has released several videos that put the spotlight on the “offensive” design of the vehicle. Basically an “Americanized” variant of the aforementioned Tharu, the new small crossover from VW will not offend anyone with its safe design. It is presented here in the top SEL specification, although we hope to follow the R-Line model which has a sporty look.

Even without the R-Line, customers will be able to opt for 19-inch wheels if they feel that a standard 17-inch set or two 18-inch designs aren’t big enough. The design of the Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport on the outside is quite interesting, while the interior also looks so familiar without major changes.

For a completely redesigned cabin, we’ll have to wait for VW to adjust the interior of the Golf 8 for a crossover, which is probably just a matter of time. The electric hatchback ID.3 and crossover ID.4 follow the Golf’s interior.

The VW Taos is facing a tough battle if we take into account how extremely demanding the compact crossover segment is in North America. VW says it will reveal pricing details as soon as the official unveiling of the model approaches, but we estimate the base model will cost somewhere around $ 21,000. With all the bells and whistles, the 2022 Taos could reach about $ 30,000.
